Lane Cove West 2
19th
July 2008, Blackman
We played what
seemed to be a strong
The game kicked
off and really both sides spent 20 minutes feeling each other out. Then our first chance and the first chance of the game. A
nice move out wide and a nice ball inside to Xenos
who jinked passed 2 men and allowed himself all he
time in the world to finish. He sent a smashing shot to the roof of the net
which somehow the keeper got a hand to. Pushing the ball
wide.
Then with 10
minutes left in the half Michael Poulos looked to
cross the ball from 10yards from the penalty box, which was miss hit and with
good fortune floated over the keepers head to make it 1 nil.............it was
his first goal EVER in a competitive match.
So we went into
halftime leading 1-0, but confident. We knew that they really didn’t have much
to offer against us, but at the same time we knew from our last match that they
would continue to compete.
The second half
began in very much the same way as the first and we battled for every half
chance we could get. Then in one fleeting moment the game completely changed. A free kick 5 meters in from the touchline and 30 yards out.
The taker over kicked the strike and our keeper mis
read the ball, which nicely floated over his head to make it 1-1. 2 bad gaols in the game.
We were now in
a battle. Although we had the majority of the game we found it difficult to
break them down and infact their long ball game
actually frustrated us.
Then with 10
minutes to go we were given a penalty with a nudge on our striker at the top of
the box. No one really wanted to step up, but Felix took control and did so. He
made it 2-1 with a comfortable penalty.
The game stayed
at that score with our defence relatively comfortable for the remainder of the
game.
