Lane Cove West 3 ,
31 May 2008, Samual King Oval
A solid win for the reserves, in a game that could easily have seen more LCW goals scored. The game started off with a minor hiccup, with Turra scoring early and against the run of play. Heads stayed up though, and a superb equalizer followed from Brendan. Not to be outdone, Al fired a “thunderbolt” into the back of the net… yes Al, a “thunderbolt”. Rob followed this all up by skillfully (cough) bobbling the ball into the back of the net. Some team members have even commented on the “Maradonna-esque” finish, and as the last contact before the ball crossed the line was via my testicles, I think it only appropriate that the phrase “The Balls of God” be used to describe this moment… Thanks Brendan for the cross.
Some solid defending (Mick the enforcer in full swing et al.) and great saves (Good one Pete!) kept our lead intact and saw us through some pressure patches as the woefully outclassed Turra team did their best to recover. The midfield played well in both attack and defense, doing a solid job helping protect our lead as well. Importantly, it was still clear that we haven’t lost our infinite skill at abusing one another on the pitch, but at least that meant we were not getting involved in any altercations with the other team this week. In the interest of team harmony, I will not name names, nor will I place the eloquent rejoinders that followed such constructive advice into print…there were however, some corkers.
So in summary, well done to us. We deserved it. Good luck to you lucky sods who will be playing the head to head this weekend, and in next weekends game… the “Balls of God” will be winging their way to the USA for work, but will try to keep in the loop via the website (which, happily I can say I am now aware of… thanks Pete).
Rob “BOG” Sutherland (please don’t stoop to witty rejoinders of how BOG may be appropriate for other reasons)…
