Lane Cove West 1 , Berowra 1,
24 May 2008, Mowbray
In a spirited
display the reserves managed to put an end to their losing streak although they
will be disappointed not to have done better than a 1-1 draw.
We started the
game well and stretched the Berowra defence with Alex and Aja
both finding plenty of space down the flanks. As always Shelley worked his
socks off and created a couple of chances for himself but was denied by some
desperate defending. Other than that we were limited to a series of long shots,
some of which were probably a lot closer than they looked from the opposite end
of the pitch. Alex, Will and Mayberry all had shots on goal after some good
passing moves but we were unable to convert any of our first half chances. We
looked comfortable enough at the back until Berowra took the lead against the
run of play midway through the second half. It looked like we were heading for
a fourth consecutive loss but we kept on plugging away. Our endeavour and
perseverance was finally rewarded when Rob managed to thread a shot through the
eye of the needle to score from an impossible angle. The game really opened up
in the last fifteen minutes and both teams had chances on the break.
Unfortunately the end-to-end excitement was probably not shared by the crowd as
the post-match analysis of one of our injured team mates (no names JT) was that
the second half seemed to “drag on”.
There are a
number of positives that we can take from the match. The reserves are starting
to play more like a team again and communication is getting better every week.
At times we played some good football though often lack composure in the final
third. Confidence is definitely building again and we do appear to be
rediscovering a little of that early season form.
