Lane Cove West 0 , Asquith 0,
21 June 2008, Golden Jubilee
The reserves game on Sunday had been moved due to the poor condition
of the pitch, which didn't say much for the originbal venue, as Golden Jubilee
was anything but golden as mud several inches deep covered almost half
the pitch.
The 11am Sunday kickoff wasn't ideal for squad availability, and Lane Cove
West fielded an interesting 3-4-3 lineup, with Al donning a keepers jersey in
front of a back 3 of Marcus, Will and Mic Meers and a 3 pronged attack seeing
Mark Bryant from the Over45s alongside Aja and Rob "Balls of God" Sutherland.
Powertel, Adrian, John Mayberry and Michael filled out the midfield.
Lane Cove West attacked the good end of the pitch in the first half, suspecting
that that's where the goals would come from and dominated possession from
the outset, but were unable to get the goal they wanted despite creating numerous
half chances. The best chance of the half fell to Mark Bryant, who's shot from
about 2 metres out went agonisingly wide. Al in goals managed to handle everything
that came his way, and was full of colur advice for the defenders he had in front
of him.
The second half saw Lane Cove West attacking the boggy end, and although
they maintained the greater share of possession, they were unable to produce
the goal they desired. Two Chris's Riorden and Milce were thrown on in the dying
minutes in an effort to push more people forward but were still unable to provide
ta breakthrough. In the dying seconds Graeme was put clean through on goal,
but rather than test the keeper he took the option of a safe defensive clearance
from 18 yards out, afterwards claiming somebody told him to do it.
0-0 the final score. Not as good as a win but enough to send the Reds into
4th place on the table
