Lane Cove West 2 Gordon 0

The As bounced straight back from last week's narrow loss to Lane Cove with a very comfortable 2-0 victory over Gordon. We got on the scoreboard early after a shot from Paul Shelley rebounded and was slotted home by Steve Walton (apologies if it was by Scott Rawstorne but I was too excited at the goal to remember). This always seems to help our game and our discipline (which was much improved this week - well done lads). We then effectively dominated the remainder of the game having numerous chances and while not squandering too many, failed to add much to the scoreboard. Midway through the first half Steve Walton suffered an injury enabling Robert Pires lookalike Ivan Colhoun to return from injury and create immediate threats up front mainly because Jon Prideaux was relocated there! Seriously though, Jon ran extremely hard for the whole game and was a threat to the Gordon backline, which was a great effort playing out of position. Lane Cove went to the break 2-0  up after Stuart Marshall curled a ripper free kick into the roof of the net. Despite countless attacks in the second half, we could not add to the score. Our defence looked exceedingly solid again, with Pete Nolan again doing a great job at sweeper, Willie strong in the centre, Paul Mattes again outstanding (and failing to end up quite as smashed up as usual), and Dave Pritchard very effective at right back.

So all in all, and a very pleasing aspect of this season to date, a very good team effort, with strong contributions all round.

As below, we are now a clear fourth, one point behind St Ives who we convincingly beat 3-0. All of the top four sides have a goal difference of

+6, and we have the second lowest goals conceded.

Our next game is against West Pymble 35B, who scored 7 against Hornsby Heights on the weekend.
