Here is the match report from Saturday's game. Remember that the content of this report does not reflect the view of LCW but is merely the view of a frustrated sports journo!! Hehehe.

"The team took to the field buoyant after last weeks thrashing of St Ives.  Could the guys win two out of two?  One key tactical change for the game was the movement of Nigel Blow from midfield to goalie.  The reason for this being that Lucio was in the land of the long white cloud learning how to shear sheep, or something similar!

The key to our win against St Ives was a quick goal.  True to form, Scott Rawstorne put the side 1-0 up with only 5 minutes gone.  This goal had a positive effect on the team who raised their efforts to an even higher level.  Up front we had our big gun - Grant Cannon back from injury and with able support from Paul, Steve and Davoud was causing problems for Northside's defence.

Meanwhile Northside had their own version of Orca the Whale playing upfront which made it difficult for Jon and John to get the ball off him! Despite this the defence, well marshalled by Gareth, ensured that their forwards were kept at bay.

Then came the incident that will be talked about in bowling clubs, nursing homes and RSLs for many a year.  When we think of great saves we naturally think of Gordon Banks in Mexico 1970, Jerzy Dudek in last year's Euro Final and now we can add the name of Nigel Blow. LCW's number two produced a world class save (no joke)from close range to stop a certain goal. It was of the highest calibre!

This was the sign that it wasn't going to be Northside's day and in the second half the team, cajoled by the midfield promptings of Stuart, Scott et al, scored another goal.  This time Paul Shelley got to a great ball and banged it into the corner of the net.  There was still time for Nigel to produce another top class save before the game finished.  Paul Shelley also put in a cameo sprinting performance when substituted before the end to the words "Paul, beer time!"

On the whole, a great team performance with everyone giving 110%.   Now

we have to keep it going for the rest of the season!"

Derek.

Editor's note - thanks to Derek for managing the side this week. He now has a 100% management record and is forwarding his CV to Man City.
