“It was the result that counted”.

After experiencing an early scare from West Pymble, we quickly woke up and started to take control and it wasn’t long before our early running was rewarded with a well worked goal from JP.

A ball was intercepted on the halfway line, moved upfield by Scott to I think Derek on the left,( but apologies if it was someone else) who sent a perfect pass which split the Pymble defense to find JP unmarked.Cooly he trapped the ball and sent a low rasping shot into the right hand corner of the net – 1-0. Still on a high after this early goal our advantage was pressed home with a second goal using the route one method ie.a pass straight down the middle which found Scott, and with his pace and strength he outpaced the Pymble defence and sent an unstoppable shot past the hapless keeper – 2-0.

And then we sort of lost our way a bit and allowed Pymble to get back into the game – albeit with few real chances to score. This was a symptom of our last victory where for all our domination and chances created we couldn’t find that killer touch to really finish off the opposition.

Into the second half we lost Paul with a knee injury, however knowing his speed at recovering from career threatening injuries I’m sure we can look forward to him taking the field again next

Saturday. It was also very pleasing to see Nigel back after a few weeks lay off with a knee injury.

Late in the second half Pete after not putting a foot wrong in the whole game inadvertently a hand wrong and the eagle eyed referee pointed to the spot, with little argument from Pete or his team mates.

Normally we would then have been looking at a nervous last 10 mins, however we have a keeper in Lucio who is proud of our defensive record being the best in the division (only 8 conceded) and flung himself to his right, palming a well taken penalty into the air. It was then that everything seemed to move in slow motion and the spinning ball looked to everyone as though it would drop backwards into the net. Whilst the rest of his team mates watched in stunned silence, fortunately

Lucio did not and scrambled the ball away as the Pymble striker ran in to convert the rebound. A great save indeed!

After this we continued to press and in the last few minutes scored the final goal with what was probably one of our best moves of the match – a great build up down the left with the final pass finding Steve who after seeing his shot well saved by their keeper, then watched as the rebound hit a defenders backside and rolled into the net – needless to say the Pymble defender was somewhat embarrassed by the own goal and graciously offered Steve credit for the goal – which of course he gladly accepted. So another clean sheet and 3 points puts us into third place and everything to play for.

Please let me know of your thoughts regarding 3/2/1.

I am presuming that there are no changes to the players that were available for last Saturday – although it would be advantageous to have three subs for this week’s game.

 Cheers,

Dave
