Lane Cove
West vs Northbridge 1-4
Boys, the scoreline above doesn't look that pretty,
but let that not deter us for next weeks agenda.
(Let's turn that score around!!)
This is how the game went in a nutshell.
A beautiful Saturday afternoon, persuaded the local
Northbridge community to come out in droves in what would be a game remembered
more for pushing, holding, swearing and trying to belittle the opponent than an
actual soccer game. Nevertheless, the effort
and aggression
displayed
by Lane Cove in the 2nd half, defined us as a team more so than games past.
The first half was dominated by Northbridge, mainly
for that fact that we struggled to win the ball, and when we did win it, we
promptly gave it away.
Andrew and Nick provided good cover support in
defense, but we were still lacking a mid field to control the ball and
subsequently the game. Larry, aka(Bono) made some strong runs and a little support play could
have created a myriad of potential goal scoring opportunities. Marc G, was putting his all up front, but
unfortunately, the ball evaded him one time too many, again for the lack of
creative passing in the mids. The only consolation to
the first half in terms of results, was a
brilliant,
did I say brilliant, goal by a mysterious, previous centre forward, who founds
his old position once again. I forget
his name!. In
all seriousness, we were in the game at 2-1 down, but unfortunately, their
aggressive forward play was too much for our defensive line. I feel we matched them head to head in the
second half, as we controlled at least 60% of the ball, and it showed in our
phase plays. The 2 goals scored against
us in the second half, was in no way a reflection of our skill and efforts, and
with a little luck, we could have edged the lead.
I feel it is also apt to introduce and congratulate
BIG MIC, for his rugby style effort in instilling well deserved fear into the Northbridge
camp, well done Mic, and keep up the effort.
I strongly believe if we play the way we did in the
second half next week, we will be a dominant force in next weeks
encounter. As a team, we are developing,
even though the score can and often does affect morale, its time to focus on
achieving personal goals within the team, which will hopefully translate into
memorable performances as a defined and cohesive soccer team.
I look forward to seeing you all fired up for next
weeks game.
Cheers,
Gav.
