Lane Cove West  0  vs Asquith  2

The Lane Cove West reserve team was back at home after a disappointing performance against Kissing Point. Milce has turned out as ref sporting a tight fitting sports shirt in an attempt to be more aerodynamic on the pitch. Duncan was making his return to the goalkeeper’s position and Asquith thought they'd test his fitness levels out by peppering him with shots all

day.

Things weren't helped with Warn going off early due to injury and Sweeney following later in the match. Fortunately for the Reds they were able to call on the abilities of an unheralded 12th player nicknamed "The Posts" who was called into action twice in the first half to keep the game scoreless. Asquith were having too much possession however, and eventually it told and they were able to get 2 goals in before half time.

A half-time talking to saw the reds come out a little bit more structured in the 2nd half, with Bono coming on to add some starch to midfield. They even managed to halt the Asquith barrage with a few attacking raids of their own.

Asquith were beginning to get frustrated at their inability to go further ahead, their efforts being thwarted mainly by a great effort in goals from Duncan who made a few outstanding saves including blocking an overhead kick from 1m out.

One of the Asquith players took exception at his sides inability to score and started taking his frustrations out on Lane Cove West players and was fortunate only to be booked for his actions.

In a display of extreme refereeing incompetence Peter Alorati was also booked, presumably for being too good looking.

With the clock running down on an Asquith win, Cookie decided he thought he could better Duncan's efforts in goals and picked up a goal-bound shot to scoop it out for a corner. Despite valiant denial, Cookie was sent off and must now suffer a 1 match ban, with Milce possibly forced to play at left back for the duration as punishment for having the nerve to send off his captain.

Despite the opinion of some Asquith players unaware of what sport was being played, there was no "automatic goal" awarded and Asquith were forced to the penalty spot to convert the chance. Their attempt wasn't quite as bad as Beckham's, seeing as it was on target, but Duncan did manage to save it, keeping the 2nd half scoreline at 0-0 and a 2-0 loss over all.

A trip to Northbridge next week where the team's first win of the year awaits.
