Another sunny day at Blackman saw the arrival of Brooklyn to the big smoke. These traveling people arrived full of confidence given the 4-0 spanking they gave our make shift team earlier in the season. LCW also came into the game with the confidence that they had their best squad for ages, alas this was soon shattered by the news that our first choice keeper had to work and that we couldn’t get any proven replacements. Luckily Andrew was available to play and the defense was briefed to keep it tight at the back and protect the fledgling 11-a-side keeper as much as they could.

The game started with both teams looking to dominate midfield. Brooklyn had a few long shots that didn’t really trouble the LCW goal whilst LCW tried to hit them on the counter looking to use the lack of pace in their backline to our advantage. Matty was making good progress down the left and managed to set up Tom but his left leg was taken away from him just when he was about to pull the trigger, alas no penalty was awarded. A good ball over the top from Paul got Mark on the chase but it fell to his left and it didn’t trouble the keeper. During this spell LCW started to get the upper hand in midfield and from Dave’s free kick Mark flicked it on for Matty to steer his header millimeters wide of the post with only the keeper to beat. Next came the other wingers chance when Graeme seemed to be the only player not to stop and shout at the ref and ran onto a through ball and calmly beat the keeper from a tight angle only to see the shot agonizingly cleared off the line by a backtracking defender. The final action of the half happened at the other end and saw Brooklyn punt a free kick into the box which Andrew fumbled into the only place where there was no LCW defender to clear and the Brooklyn striker gladly accepted the gift to put them 1-0 up.

Alas we went into half time with the same old feeling that we had dominated the match and had the better chances but were trailing to an unlucky break. The only change from the manager was for Jason came on for Graeme to try to utilize more speed down the right.

Brooklyn came out for the second half content to settle for the result and invited LCW onto them. As a result they didn’t really test our defense, who mopped up everything which came their way. Mark, Tom and Matt continued to run at their defense and carved out many chances that we just couldn’t convert. Just when we looked the most likely to score Brooklyn strung together a good move which resulted in Andrew making a great save to touch a cross come shot onto the bar and Dan was there to clear the rebound. It was at this point that the sledging from the Brooklyn fans took a surreal turn with the inbred mutants shouting abuse about our teams ability (mainly Rich) and also accused us all of being “pome bastards” which I took great offence to! But as I said above it was a rare trip to the civilized world for the tink scum who proved all the stories of rural Australia true – the Brooklyn right midfielder looked very much like his mother was his father’s sister and a quick look at the crowd proved this to be the case.

The LCW team on the pitch then answered the sledges in the best possible way. Matty took a free kick from the left and thumped it at their keeper who dropped it for Paul to score the equalizer. Then, shortly afterwards,  Dave repeated the trick thumping a free kick at their keeper who dropped it for Paul to beat four LCW players to score his and LCW’s second of the match. Brooklyn were a spent force as Tom and Jason wasted a great chance to put the icing on the cake when clean through. Paul was then injured, suspected broken foot, and replaced for his first team debut by Tugby as LCW saw out the time to record a fine win.

LCW claim all 3 points, Tugby can claim the firsts are unbeaten when he is on the pitch and Brooklyn can feck off back to their sisters for a consolation shag.
