Background Reading

Construction began in 1999 as temporary housing for an email series about travelling through the heart of the koala's homeland, Oz (Australia) - thus my 'keyboard name'.  The small o and capital E are meant to alert you to the cleverness of the name!  It didn't work for some people... Probably the same people who didn't appreciate the cuteness of this signature:

@(*O*)@

Its hard to keep everyone happy, but I do my best.  :)

Speaking of which, the purpose of this lengthy introduction to my site is to prepare you for what's to come.  When the email series developed into ozEkoala's Adventures online, I was completely new to website design, so it was an experiment.  Some might say it is an experiment gone wrong, but I prefer to see it as a continuing adventure of discovery.

I could give up in disgust as I consider the difficulties which lie ahead as I grapple with how to make the site work now that it is over 150 pages long or wide, or is that deep...   In the beginning I didn't know enough to plan a foolproof navigation system, so it has taken all my ingenuity and lots of hard work to keep what has now grown to several distinct websites,  from becoming a rabbit warren of tunnels, some leading to embarrassing dead-ends.

I hope it hasn't become like that... but my problems haven't stopped there.  The biggest problem is that what was meant to be digested in manageable meal-sized portions now looks like a medieval banquet laid out for nobility, and to some delicate types the sight is somewhat off-putting.  How to make it attractive and practical at the same time has driven me to distraction at times.

The key to enjoying my site is lots of time, and a bit of stamina and stickability. You have to be willing to come back again and again.  You have to know how to save pages on your own computer to read at your leisure.  Or you need to print out pages like some of my fellow Adventurers have.

Having said all that, I've probably lost half my visitors already, but truly - if you can't make it past page one, what hope is there that you will be able to cope with the rigours of travelling through inland Australia with me, I ask you!?

Some websites warn visitors that their site is graphics intensive.  I'm warning you in many words, that this site has LOTS of reading material.  It also has some very nice graphics, so I've been told... and lots of humour, lots of thought-provoking short articles, lots of fun and adventure...
