Ty Dodson, “Mr Reliable” Dodson, the man with the golden touch. Having secured an astonishing double of 26 and 4/25 in the previous match, most players in Dodson’s shoes would have felt as if their job was done, that it was time for someone else to put up their hand. But not Dodson. The pocket dynamo instead chose the Gods’ next match against the might of HIC, and the exotic surrounds of 7th Brigade Park Oval 2, as the location of the next extraordinary chapter in his remarkable season.

Despite a better than expected start with the ball, the Gods were, as usual, in need of a wicket. The dangerous but unpredictable Mullen was in full cry, the hard-hitting Ciocca was on strike. In one of those rare moments every captain dreams of having but few can actually conjure, Colvin decided to send a fielder out to the deep square leg boundary. That fielder was Dodson. What followed will go down in Rain God folklore.

The Rain Gods’ opening bowler “Street” Ramsay continues. “As Mullen charged to the crease, it was clear something special was about to happen - there was magic in the air. Ciocca crashed the delivery high into the legside - at first I thought “that must be six”. But as it got closer to the boundary, so did its trajectory suddenly begin to dip. And then I saw him screaming round the rope, like an Olympic sprinter in full cry. Merciless was standing next to me - “he’ll never make it!”. But this was Dodson, “Dynamic” Dodson, and when he flung out that right hand I just knew it would stick.”
