Profile

Every team needs a champion - for the Kenyan Rain Gods, that champion is Shane "Chow" Meng. Since joining the team late in the season, Meng "The Merciless" has provided the Kenyan Rain Gods with the hard-nosed, no-holds-barred, take-it-on-the-chin-and-get-up-smiling brand of cricket that saw him expelled from the Mackay cricket scene. That ugly incident early in his career, which cannot be discussed due to legal reasons, has been put firmly behind him, and now Shane is starting to reap the rewards of the stringent training program he has adopted.

When not on the paddock, Shane can be found on the turps. When the umpire is turning to the scorers to signal yet another 4 or 6 cracked off his mighty willow, Shane takes a sip from his good luck stubby. Meng also finds time to take a drag on his way to the delivery crease, as he rips out another of his deceptive chinamen. His bowling action, while accurate and venomous, does lack a certain amount of power, sometimes not even taking the bails off by the time the ball makes it to the other end. But the future is bright for Shane, and, with his batting and all-round skills on the improve, he is considered by some to be the next Colvin.
