President's Pen

We are experiencing beautiful spring weather and ideal conditions for rowing. Even the advent of daylight saving will not spoil this time of the year. The Masters have already started with a very successful regatta in the Hunter. The schools have commenced their season and the Roseville crews will be regular participants from now on. Please note the following important dates.

Roseville will be holding their inaugural regatta at SIRC on Saturday, November 10th and our North Shore Club Regatta is Sunday, November 18th at the Club.

If you wish to compete in these regattas please let John James know and sign up on the notice board.

In preparation for our Regatta and the season in general, we will be holding a Clean-up day on Sunday, November 4th. Please come down and support the Club on this day. Socially, on Saturday, November 10 while we are all glued to the media to see who wins the election, there will be a Trivia Night at the clubhouse. All the details are on the reverse of this newsletter. Please come along to meet new people, have some fun and support the Club.

We have purchased three new boats for the coming season, a four, a pair and a new scull. We look forward to these boats carrying winning crews.

Master's Trophy
It was a great pleasure to accept, on behalf of the Club, the Spencer Grace OAM Combined Masters Shield at the NSW Rowing Association Presentation Dinner on October 10th. North Shore won the trophy for last season with Sydney University coming second. I like to think that Spencer Grace would be pleased with our Club efforts but I also look forward to an even stronger result in the coming year.

Club Regatta
Our Club Regatta is scheduled for November 18th with a working bee a fortnight earlier on November 4th. Events to be raced are posted on the notice board and we look forward to as many crews participating as possible. Volunteers will also be in demand for a host of vital activities.

World Masters Regatta,
Montreal 40 rowers from the Sydney basin clubs, including 7 North Shore members, formed crews for the FISA World Masters Regatta held on the Montreal Olympic course at the beginning of September. Linda Ormerod won gold in the E quad and John James won gold in the F quad. Overall the Regatta was a successful and enjoyable event, well conducted by the Canadians in a friendly atmostphere. Next year the event will held near Prague, Czech Republic.

Captain

THE CHRISTMAS TWILIGHT REGATTA

SUNDAY, 16 DECEMBER

Crews are randomly picked in either or both sculling and sweep oar events. The Regatta is held in the spirit of good fun and camaraderie followed by a barbeque and Christmas drinks. This is a family and friends day as well, although all rowers have to be members of the Club. The Regatta was a great success last year and provided an opportunity for club members to meet new faces and row with an interesting variety of people of all ages. Look for entry forms and catering advice which will be available at the Club mid November.
