2008 thru 2009

Here is my first complete "from scratch" IIgs programming project. Since building my kids a IIgs (in a //e skin), I have been on the lookout for quality games that appeal to their age group (they are 4 and 2). Although I have found quite a few quality games on the Apple IIgs Fairway site (thanks Alex!), the games were a bit old-fashioned in that they don't contain any of today's childrens characters. Even Sesame Street and/or the Muppets are conspicuously absent. In light of this, I came up with the idea of making a simple colouring in type game (like many childrens games do) that includes modern day icons for children - in this case, Dora the Explorer, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Winnie the Pooh which happen to be some of my kids favourite shows. These shows are shows that I don't mind my kids watching, as they contain educational material presented in a subtle and interactive manner that young children enjoy.

I would welcome any comments or idea's people have about the game. Do your kids like it? Is the music OK? Do you want more pictures? What extra features would you like to see? Any other comments? Send me an email using the link below, or post on comp.sys.apple2.programmer, and leave your comments.

If anyone has a problem with me using Dora the Explorer, Thomas the Tank Engine or Winnie the Pooh in my game and distributing it, please let me know and I will remove the link. Just remember, that this program is written for a 1986 vintage computer with a small user-base, and that I am distributing it as freeware.

19/12/2009 - New Christmas Colouring for the IIgs theme pack

Just in time for Christmas 2009, a new theme pack that is guaranteed to keep the little ones busy up until the bearded red one arrives- a new theme pack chock full of new Christmas images and Christmas music! Simply download the Shrinkit archive and extract to your Colouring for the IIgs folder (making sure to preserve the folder structure). The new game will then automatically appear in the game menu when run. Enjoy, and I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas!

16/09/2009 – Colouring for the IIgs V1.0 Complete Pascal source released

Colouring for the IIgs started out life in 2007 as a Complete Pascal program, but was converted to Orca/Pascal in early 2008 (in an attempt to squash a few bugs using Orca's debugger). This release marks the first occasion where I've ported the code back into Complete Pascal. There were one or two bugs in Complete Pascal that made this port take longer than it probably should have (but that is a story for another day!).

25/07/2009 – Colouring for the IIgs V1.0 is released (with source code!)

Live from Mt. Keira Fest 2009, I proudly announce the full release of Colouring for the IIgs along with the much anticipated source code (well someone may be interested!). Along with the source code, I have added a brand new theme pack, Pirate Dora (my youngest daughter had been asking for this for quite a while).
