God

Every religion has their own spin on what God is like.  What makes the Christian version the correct one?

All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

KEEP SEARCHING.

I wish I had a dollar for the amount of times people tell me to keep searching.  I sometimes ask them if they have stopped searching.  Searching for what?? If you are looking for a lost wallet or piece of jewellery then you know exactly what you are searching for.

So what could people possibly mean when they say keep searching.  No-one yet has been able to give me a satisfactory answer.  I suppose it’s one of those throw away lines that people throw out there with little thought.

In terms of searching for the truth, that will always be a quest.  It will also be an unreachable quest in many ways.  In terms of the Christian religion, I can say that I have been over most aspects of it with a fine toothed comb.  That search involved some years of formal study as well as a life time (my lifetime) of study, inquiry and personal experiences.  In many ways that search is over, although I will never shut the door completely on any religious system.

The really funny thing is that those who say to keep searching are not ready, willing or able to produce the details on how to find the "findable" goal.  There are often good reasons for this.  Most people who become Christians do so with little thought or critical inquiry.  Some have an ecstatic experience, which they then pin their hopes on.  One friend alleges that he heard God speak to him out of the white noise on the television whilst he was stoned on dope, much like the way the poltergeist spoke to the little girl in the movie Poltergeist.  Others make the decision because someone has convinced them that it’s the right thing to do, while others believe the stories that all non-Christians will burn in hell, tormented for eternity.  These people take out what they believe is fire insurance.  Many others accept the traditions passed on by their families questioning only the finer details of the faith rather than the bigger issues.

As for some they are confused by a barrage of propaganda and are in effect brainwashed.  I have to confess that I have a part of this less than worthy procedure.  Although carefully planned, it lacks credibility and is based on assumption.

So where is this elusive road map to finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  Is there even a rainbow, or is it just an illusion?  How can we search for something we don’t even know what to search for?  If the Christian gospel is the goal, then which of the hundreds of versions of salvation do you accept? (See the topic Salvation for a short explanation).

Got answers?  Be careful!  Such profound questions require profound answers.

Maybe you have some ideas, thoughts or profound answers.
