God

Every religion has their own spin on what God is like.  What makes the Christian version the correct one?

All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

H.L. Mencken, Damn! A Book of Calumny, (1918)

Is Jesus a worthy advocate?

The reason Jesus is touted as being a worthy saviour is said to be because he was able to identify with every temptation that is common to man.  Immediately there is a question mark on his ability to identify with women and their circumstances.

It should be pointed out, that according to mainstream Christian doctrine that Jesus never had a girlfriend or even married.  He never experienced a normal childbirth, never experienced old age or expressed his sexual urges in any of the usual outlets.

When talking to an old Christian the other day, he asked me what I thought he should do about a particular problem.  Children were annoying him by kicking a ball around in front of his house.  When I asked him what Jesus would have done in a similar situation, he said "Jesus would not have had that problem".  I asked him to imagine what he might have done if he was in that situation.  I didn't get an answer.

If Christians who claim to follow Jesus are incapable of relating their "Lord" to their daily lives what use is he?  If Christians claim that Jesus is their advocate, saviour and helper, what use is he if they can't relate every day situations to their Lord?

So is this person Jesus worthy of being a substitute when he is unable to identify with so many aspects of the human condition?
