The image of God

I was watching a program on TV the other day and the Pastor said we need to display the character and attributes of God.  Well there are some nice ones that are mentioned in the Bible but also some that most people, if not all, would find not only objectionable but repulsive.

Well here are my questions to this God of the Bible.

Is being a jealous person OK.  Maybe there is good and bad jealousy?

How about being a vengeful person.  Why should vengeance only be yours?  If that is who you are why shouldn’t other people be allowed to be vengeful?

You are the god of armies (Lord of Hosts).  Isn’t being a god of love contradicted by being a god of war.

Is it OK to cause harm to those who oppose you?  Let’s face it, you seem to have no problem with the slaughter of thousands and the eternal torment and punishment of those who don’t agree or have never heard of you.

I thought you were supposed to be a God of justice.  Isn’t that eternal punishment grossly unfair?  I have even been told that young children, even though not of the age to accept the teachings of the Bible, will be eternally condemned by you.  Even those people who haven’t even read a Bible will be tormented by you for ever.

So you can see why I have a problem with being like you.
