All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

The Gospel of Judas

I have been asked the question of how the discovery of the Gospel of Judas affects the story of Jesus.  Well my response hasn't changed as the wide variety of documents don't really add any light on the topic of the historical life of Jesus.  Let's face it, what documents can be relied on?  Those who claim that this latest gospel account seriously undermines the Jesus - Judas account are guessing just as much as those who claim that the traditional stories are accurate.

The document along with the other gospel documents do reveal that there were many different stories about the life and times of Jesus.  To try and distinguish what is fact and what is fiction is not a scientific process, although textual criticism can offer some suggestions, and demonstrates that absolutes are not obtainable.
