Fetishes
If you are in any way aware of the history of sexuality in the West I'm sure
you will agree it is often a tragic story of myths, fantasy and fables.
Under the shadow of Victorian society and its repressive sexual demands we are
still struggling to shake the shackles of its curse to this day. Do
yourself a favour and rent the video on the life of Alfred Kinsey. It
tells the true story of the man "Kinsey" and one of the largest sex
surveys ever done. Set in the early 1900s it is an enlightening expose of
the nature of sexuality in America at that time.
According to many Christians, the idea of fetishes or sexual expression which
is a bit off centre (what is centre anyway) is often deemed inappropriate, wrong
or just plain sinful. Often these people fail to realise that as human
beings we are all different. Unfortunately, fetishes like bondage have
been stigmatised making people who fall into this category feel guilty for no
reason. If two people consent to a brand of sexual expression they are
happy with, so what. Of course there are hundreds probably even thousands
of fetishes or types of sexual expression.
Unfortunately the variety of sexual expression can cause immense marital
problems. This is often the case when one partner is unwilling or repulsed
by the other partner's desire to express themselves. I'm not sure what the
solution is when this occurs, but I do know that bringing up children in the
dark regarding sex is dangerous and can make these problems worse.
