Faith v Real Life (Faith v
Praxis)
One of the things that has
often puzzled me is the ability of so called genuine Christians to discard their
beliefs in favour of their own life style preferences.
If I sat and thought about
it hard enough I could find hundreds of examples. One that comes to mind
is the ability of Christians I know to misrepresent the truth. In many
life situations they would endorse telling the truth but in other situations
that involve money they would willingly misrepresent the facts. It might
be winding back the odometer in a car or deliberately hiding faults from a
potential buyer.
Another matter that is
extremely common is people's willingness to abandon the "teaching" of their
faith on marriage, divorce and adultery in favour of their extra curricular
desires for another partner. Few people are willing to try and patch up
their marriage relationship even though their own Biblical beliefs encourage
them to do so. Some Christians would argue that such wilful and purposeful
disobedience is unforgivable.
The point is that in many
areas of life Christians are prepared to choose their own life style choices
above and beyond the requirements of their particular brand of faith. What
does this say about their faith and belief in the truth they espouse?
