All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

Encounters with God?

You may have read Ecclesian's response to the topic of the Bible and his comments on billions of people's experience.  He makes a good point and it is worth discussing in some depth.

Most, if not all religions report what are called ecstatic (feeling of great delight) experiences.  In fact many of the Satanic, New Age and other feel good philosophies do exactly the same.  I suppose one could argue that they are all experiencing God in some way, even the Satanic and witchcraft cults.

What is evident, is the fact that it is possible to work yourself into a state of "ecstasy" or even further hysteria.  This is clearly displayed in football games around the world where this can be seen in varying degrees.

So the question remains are these states different or can they all be explained by modern psychology as experiences that are not so much from an external source but something deep within our selves?  Maybe that where God exists, deep within each of us.  Who knows?

Let's know your thoughts.
