 Quote
All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

H.L. Mencken, Damn! A Book of Calumny, (1918)

I have begun compiling some Christian dumb quotes.

Christianity is the greatest intellectual system the mind of man has ever touched”  Francis Schaeffer

The Media is ruled by Satan. But yet I wonder if many Christians fully understand that.
Jimmy Swaggart

Educate men without religion and you make of them but clever devils.
Arthur Wellesley

Other interestingly dumb things:

1.Charles Wesley summarizes this high view of inspiration brilliantly when he says, "The Bible must be the invention either of good men or angels, bad men or devils, or of God. However, it was not written by good men, because good men would not tell lies by saying 'Thus saith the Lord;' it was not written by bad men because they would not write about doing good duty, while condemning sin, and themselves to hell; thus, it must be written by divine inspiration" (McDowell 1990:178).

Good men would not tell lies ...  Is that the height of naive ignorance.  Stick to writing hymns Charles, the words on some of those are dumb enough without letting people know how bad a theologian you are.

2. In the Bible we, likewise, have a number of references which speak of the unchangeableness of God's word; such as, Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Isaiah 8:20; Matthew 5:17-18; 24:35; and Revelation 22:18-20.

Well what about when God changed his mind?  Moses is supposed to have convinced God otherwise.
