All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

About the Christian religion.

Recently I went to a group discussion to watch a video on the major world religions.  Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity were represented.  The discussion was held in America by the Willow Creek Community Church, an organisation I used to be a member of.

The Christian, who was an employee of the host church, boasted over 2 billion adherents to the Christian religion.  This is an interesting figure because many Christians deny that many of the Christian religions are in fact "Christian".  The definition of Christian runs into the hundreds, possibly even thousands.  There are evangelical Christians who deny that the Catholic church is Christian.  There are other Christians who maintain that you are not a real Christian until you have been baptised, or speak in tongues, or been filled with the Holy Spirit in a second experience... the list goes on.  Many of these Christians take the words applied to the Jews in the Old Testament that refer to a "remnant".  This idea of a remnant suggests that although the numbers might be large the "true" following is quite small.  It is sometimes called a "little flock".

Well you can't have your cake and eat it!  So what are the numbers?
