All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

Agnosticism and Ambivalence.

Reaching the 40s in life has a number of advantages.  One of the things that has happened to me philosophically is an attitude of ambivalence to many things, not just religion.

I have always been a huge Rugby League fan.  I recall getting quite anxious as I would wait to see a game with my favourite team.  The games themselves were always nerve racking and I would get quite upset when my team faced a loss.  Every decision the referee made against my team was viewed as suspicious, one eyed or just a poor decision.

Now days, I love the game equally, but am much more resigned to a loss or decisions that effect the team.  I suppose this ambivalence has carried over from my religious thinking into many areas of my life, even sport.

So agnosticism is not just a religious position but a position that carries over into virtually every area of my life.  Newspaper and television stories are especially in focus as I have learnt that you cannot believe everything you read or see.
