God

Every religion has their own spin on what God is like.  What makes the Christian version the correct one?

All great religions, in order to escape absurdity, have to admit a dilution of agnosticism. It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely.

A World without Christianity!

I remember the scathing attacks John Lennon's song "Imagine" received when he included the line "Imagine no religion."  To many, this was typical of the godless lifestyle Lennon lived and promoted.  I think that many of these people failed to see the real point of the song.  It fell on the back of the statement by Lennon that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus, probably a dumb thing to say.

This brings me to a comment that is often made "So what would this world be like without Christianity".  Christians often cite the various institutions that have been started by Christians.  Hospitals, education and many valuable organisations and institutions have been created by Christian people.  I am a supporter of one such organisation, namely World Vision.

Many fine Christian men and women whose names are too many to mention began good and charitable works.  This has led many Christians to the conclusion that there would be blood on the streets if not for the Christian faith.

That being said, the world would have also been a vastly different place without the Christian religions.  Consider the millions who have died, been slaughtered and ostracised in the name of Jesus.  Think of the slavery that flourished under the banner of Christianity.  Without Christianity much of this unnecessary carnage would not have taken place.  Even the Jewish race has been maligned for two thousand years in the name of Christianity.  Many Jewish lives could have been saved if it wasn't for the feelings of hatred by most of the so called Christian nations of the world.

So when all is said and done, there have been both ends of the spectrum of human good will and human slaughter in the name of Christianity.

Without Christianity in the world things would be different.  But don't lets fall for the lie that things would be worse!
