WILLS
Wills are a rich source of
information for Family Histories.
A new section has been added Transcripts or Extracts
of Warry wills or wills mentioning Warry
In England wills before 1858 were proved
in the various levels of church courts the highest of these being the
Prerogative Court of Canterbury (P.C.C.) for southern England where mainly the
wealthier plus people dying overseas and leaving legacies in England or Wales e.g many seaman wills were proved.
Many of the wills proved at the
local Bishops Courts, Archdeacons Courts etc are now held by the various county
record offices but not all collections are indexed so therefore not easily
found. If a person died intestate i.e.
they didn’t make a will then an ‘Administration’ was granted to an executor
Wills proved at the P.C.C. are
indexed and digital images made of them. Both the indexes and digital images
are available online at www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk
