CONVICTION OF JOHN JACKSON, SURREY QUARTER SESSIONS 1834

Thank you for your e-mail of 8 December.

A search has been made in the Quarter Sessions process book, calendar of prisoners and indictments file for 1834 and the following information has been found.

John Jackson, labourer, variously described as late of West Molesey (indictment QS2/7/1834/390) or East Molesey (process book QS3/5/15), was indicted for larceny of 1 reticule valued at 1 shilling, 9 keys valued at 1 shilling, 1 ring valued at sixpence, 1 knife valued at 3 shillings, 1 pencil case valued at 3 shillings, 1 handkerchief valued at 1 shilling and 1 card case valued at 1 shilling, all the property of William Edwards, on 20 June 1834.  He was found guilty and sentenced to transportation for 7 years on 1 July 1834.

There may be further information such as witness statements in the sessions papers (QS2/6/1834/Midsummer), but unfortunately they comprise 181 documents which are not indexed.  If you would like the papers to be searched for material relating to John Jackson, you may wish to employ our research service, details of which are available on our website under 'how to use 'Surrey History Centre' ( http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/surreyhistoryservice).
