Sasha

Essential a simply romantic comedy between a young piano student and his very cute teacher. Eactly what I expected and wanted after the heavy start to the festival.

And to be honest, there wasn't a lot to that plot. Boy has crush, teacher is leaving, boy gets in teacher's face, teacher succumbs to boyish charm - and persistance. Chaos reigns. The great stuff really came from the surrounding storylines.

The boy's female friend, fag-hag in waiting, is madly in love with the boy. His dumb, and way cuter, younger brother catches the girl on the rebound when the boy comes out. The mother's regret at her life and her need for her children to acheive. The boys wild and dominant father creates the real tension in the movie. An immigrant that hasn't yet made peace with his new country, he's at odds with his wife, his two sons and brother-in-law - who has wierdly come from the homeland simply to renovate the bathroom. All of these people have equal measure humour and gravitas. And they're all just mad and agitated enough to make the show-down at the end work.

Good fun.
