Tasmanian BDMs
I also checked the Tas Pioneer Index 1803-1899 CD Rom and found only the two children you mentioned. They were both baptised at St David~s Church - interestingly the father's trade is quoted as "farmer" for Jane SKERRATT (RGD 32/3 no 119) which seems unliklely! He is recorded as a "writer" at Emily Eliza's baptism in 1847. No trade is recorded on her birth registation). Rev Wm Bedford was the officiating minister at both baptisms - The long gap between children is of interest - caused by CBS's enforced absence in the "interior", the "other side of the county" and/or "Port Arthur"?.
Hobart Town Courier & VDL Gazette
31 Jan 1840 "Cold Blooded Murder ~ Account of murder of John Paul (see Convict Record)
7 Feb 1840 "Supreme Court - Criminal Side - 3rd Feb - George Pettit charged with murder of John Paul.
NB I can find no mention of CBS in these two accounts of the crime (see Convict Record)-
