CLIENT INFORMATION

In the interest of providing you with the highest possible standard of service the following information is provided:

Fees for Anne Macdonald
(contact other clinicians for their individual rates)

Fees are charged to private clients as per the following discounted rates. These fees are in keeping with other practitioners throughout Canberra and are significantly below those recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (currently $228.00). These fees cover not only face-to-face time with clients but also brief phone consults (see below), referral calls, consultation with other health professionals where appropriate, and correspondence. Reports are charged separately - please enquire for details. The GST does not apply to treatment-related services but does apply to reports and assessments.

Individuals: $190.00 per hour
$50.00 per quarter hour

Couples: $220.00 per hour
$60.00 per quarter hour

*Concessions: $160.00 per hour
$40.00 per quarter hour

(* Holders of a Healthcare care, full-time, self-funded students and pensioners)

PAYMENT
Payment is required at the end of each session - payment may be made via cash, cheque or EFTPOS. Late payments incur penalties of $10.00 per week. If you have been referred by your GP or Psychiatrist then you may be eligible for a rebate from Medicare for 10 sessions per calender year. How much you receive back from Medicare is determined by the qualification of the therapist you see. In some cases you may still be eligible claim from your health care fund if you are privately insured, however this will not cover the gap fee.

If your fees are being paid by a third party then you must provide details including verification at the first session. If your condition is currently under consideration for compensability, then you are responsible for payments (at the above rates) until such time as your claim is approved. We reserve the right to use a third party - either a debt collection agency or the Small Claims Court to recover any moneys outstanding.

APPOINTMENT TIMES
All of our clinicians work part-time and so their hours of availability vary. Only a small number of after-hours appointments are available and we do not offer weekend appointments. Please ensure you arrive on time for your appointment - if you arrive late you will have a shortened session. If you are running late please contact your clinician on their mobile phone number.

CANCELLATION FEE
(This section applies to Anne Macdonald's patients only - check with other clinicians what their conditions may be)

If you cannot attend an apppointment, please provide a minimum of 24 business hours' notice - less than that will mean that you will be charged in full for the appointment unless there is an emergency such as an accident or sudden, severe ilness. If sufficient notice is given for a cancellation then most likely your appointment will be filled from a cancellation list.

TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS & CRISES
Client problems do not always fit neatly into the regular one-hour time slot during business hours and clients can contact their psychologist if they are experiencing a genuine crisis and feel we may be able to help. We can be contacted after hours on our mobile numbers. However, we do operate as sole practitioners and have limited capabilities in emergency situations such as admission to hospital. In such cases, you may be better to contact the Crisis Team in your area. Please note that consultations by phone longer than 15 minutes will be charged at the same rate as face-to-face sessions.

CONFIDENTIALITY
One of the underlying principles of the psychologist-client relationship is confidentiality. As such, all disclosures, information etc given with the sessions are maintained in the strictest confidence including secure storage of records. The only exceptions to this are:
  1. Where such information gives us cause to have concern for either your physical safety or that of others (in which case we would seek another health professional's guidance, usually that of a psychiatrist or treating medical practitioner - the same principles of confidentiality apply equally to these interactions). In emergency situations we may contact either the Crisis Team in your area or, in extreme emergencies, the police.
  2. Where you have been referred for assessment by a third party such as an insurer or employer, we are obliged to provide reports containing the information they have requested, if you have given your signed consent for this.
  3. Where we have reason to suspect the possible abuse of a child, in which case we would take action with the relevant authorities.
  4. In the event of litigation our notes can be subpoenaed. You will notice that we take notes during the session - these are to allow us to keep track of important information and if you wish to see them please ask.
  5. Should we need to discuss your case with another health professional then we will seek your consent to do so.
We trust this information will be helpful to you. If you have any other queries please feel free to ask and feedback is always appreciated.

We look forward to working with you in reaching your goals.
