Race: Trill. She is joined to the Belonn symbiont.
Mahlia entered the academy at the age of 17 years. She is very bright and had finished her schooling on Trillian one year earlier than normal. She was always at the top of her classes and the head of the Academy took a personal interest in her training. During her second year at the academy, her uncle offered to sponsor her in her initiate training. This would mean that she would have to take time out of her studies at the academy. The Academy encouraged Mahlia to go through with the initiate training and then recommence her academy training.
Taking their advice, Mahlia took a year off from the academy. She breezed through her initiate training and was joined after 10 months. She was just 19 years old, which was quite young to be joined.
She recommenced her academy training. After Starfleet found out that one of her previous hosts was a doctor, they encouraged her to do a course in Emergency Medical Triage. When she graduated, she had majors in Communications and Computers, and minors in Emergency Medical Triage and Holographic Technology.Mahlia's motto is: "If you are going to do something, then you should do it properly."
She is very honest and trustworthy, but can be a bit naive. Having been joined has opened her eyes quite a bit, but there is still some of the naivete there.
As a child, Mahlia ran away from a fight and the other children teased her and labeled her a coward. That teasing served to strengthen her, and made her determined to learn how to defend herself properly. She is a master of many forms of defense including Vulcan, Klingon and Ancient Earth forms.
She has an iron will when needed, but also has a rather odd sense of humor. Her loyalty means that she would rather die than leave her post or betray her fellow crewmates.
Neither of her parents are joined, but her uncle (father's brother) is joined to the Loka symbiont. Her brother and sister (who are twins) are currently doing their initiate training.
1ST HOST - KARIS BELONN (F) was J'Fallan to Koz Mehlar. She had a degree (with honors) in Horticulture, but left her field to be a housewife and raise her children (2 girls, 1 boy). After the children grew up, she decided to become a teacher and taught until the age of 75 years. She died at the age of 77 years.
2ND HOST - VILIK BELONN (M) was married to Kelar (unjoined). They had 1 son. Vilik was a member of the Azure Guard on Trillian, but died during a training mission after a ledge he was standing on collapsed and he fell 30m down a cliff. He was 42 years old. The death appeared to be an accident, but there are doubts.
3RD HOST - PARTEL BELONN (M) was a bachelor. He was a doctor in a general practice that mostly treated the unjoined. Because of this work he saw how the rejection affected the unjoined and was a campaigner for more rights for the unjoined. He died at the age of 86 years.
4TH HOST - LENZAR BELONN (M) was engaged to be married. He was a research scientist and was in a shuttlecraft studying a comet when the shuttlecraft was attacked by unknown enemies. He managed to get back to Trillian, but his injuries were too severe. He was 27 years old. There are also doubts over his death.
Mahlia is the 5th host of the Belonn symbiont. She has learnt to question the policies of her world. This stems from the results of research by Partel and Lenzar. She did not have any doubts about her world until she received their memories. Until then she had blindly followed and believed everything she was taught. Even though she has doubts, she does not express them publicly as they could cause her to be disgraced or even killed. She Could only discuss them with people like Jadzia Dax and Nedian Jarok!
There are question marks over the deaths of both Vilik and Lenzar. Even though the ship that attacked Lenzar's shuttle was not identified, there seemed to be some sort of recognition by the symbiont from Vilik's memories. This could mean that the Azure Guard was involved somehow, but without help from a computer expert like Nedian Jarok, there would be no real answers.
Vilik accidentally stumbled into a secret meeting of the Azure Guard, but he didn't hear anything. However, the people at the meeting were not sure as to whether he had heard anything or not. The accident is rumored to be part of a plan to keep him silent. Again, no-one knows for sure. For more information about my take on Trills, I would
