Cross

"For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God" (1 Peter 3:18)
On the cross, Jesus showed that he is:
(1) Our example "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." - Jesus (Mark 8:34)
(2) Guiltless "You, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross." (Acts 2:23)
Judas said, "I have sinned for I have betrayed innocent blood." (Matthew 27:4)
The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, "Surely this man was innocent." (Luke 23:47)
(3) Powerful Paul said that he was sent "to proclaim the gospel--not with words of human wisdom, so that the cross of Christ
might not be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1 Corinthians 1:17-18)
(4) Our peace with God "God was pleased ... through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven,
by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." (Colossians 1:19-20)
(5) Our forgiveness "God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the written code,
with its regulations, that was against us and stood oppose to us;
he took it away, nailing it to the cross." (Colossians 2:13-14)
(6) Our victory over sins "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree [cross],
so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness." (1 Peter 2:22)
(7) God's plan to exalt his Son "Christ ... was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay.
God raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses to the fact.
Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:31-33)

"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)
