![]() This shabti of the royal scribe Huy dates from the time of Amenhotep III c 1390-1352. It shows the use of polychrome faience. The mummy's coffin measures 17.5 cm in height and is approximately 5 cms deep. The mummiform shabti itself is beautifully modelled with fine details such as the eyes, hair, even the small red tyet-knot and green djed-pillar carefully delineated. Interestingly, the flesh itself is flesh-toned not the usual colours of red or yellow or those associated with Osiris. Found in Abydos, it was not a tomb object buried with its owner as is the case with most shabtis. This was most likely a gift from Amenhotep III to his scribe which was, according to tradition of the time, sent from Thebes to Abydos, holy city of Osiris, for proxy burial. |
