![]() Made of faience and only 4.3 cms long, this New Kingdom object performed the function of a 'bookplate'. Bookplates were used to denote the ownership of the papyri scrolls with which it was stored. Sometimes the actual name of a papyrus was added to the text. This particular example shows the names and titles of Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye. It shows the king's favoured colour scheme of blue and white. The two vertical rows of glyphs were to be read from left to right: 'The good God, Neb-Maat-Re given life' and 'Beloved of Amun-Re, Lord of Heaven, Ruler of Thebes'. |
