Note: 1930's dolls were of composite material made by the Ideal Doll Co, 1970's ones were
vinyl mainly by Ideal, and recent ones are commonly porcelain made by Danbury Mint. The
original composite dolls had "sleeping" eyes, or "flirting" eyes which
moved sideways. They are the most valuable in good condition but often suffer eye
deterioration, surface crazing, or mould which slowly destroys the material. Top prices
are paid for dolls with original box, dresses, tag, and pin
Shirley's own collection of more than 700 dolls was given to the Stanford Children's
Hospital in 1972 for display in reception
