Who Are We

We're a club that like to enjoy ourselves equally both on and off the water. Over the last 10 years the Cowboys have consistently been amongst the top competition teams in Victoria while also representing the social side of Dragon Boating in Melbourne. We are a group of friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands and wives and most of us are not connected in any way other than through the Dragon Boating team. We train on the picturesque Yarra River on Tuesday nights and our post training barbeques are legendary.

What makes us different

We're a mix of individuals from all walks of life and from all over the world living in and around Melbourne and sharing a passion for dragon boat racing. There is also a great mix of abilities ranging from complete novices (who have the opportunity to improve their technique and fitness) to those who have participated in the huge international dragon boat festivals of Hong Kong and Singapore. With people from 18-60 and from chess players to tri-athletes we have something to offer everyone.

Cowboys 2007 Where we do it

Training intensity varies throughout the year building up to the competition season which runs from January to April. We mainly train on the Yarra where you will find us every Tuesday night from October to April. We meet at 6:15pm for an on the water start at 6:30pm and training usually lasts around an hour. We meet at the Dragon boat compound which is at the city end of the rowing sheds on the south side of the river opposite Federation Square.

Come and join us

Newcomers of all ages, experience and fitness are always welcome, all you need to get started is some light, loose clothing and an old pair of shoes or wet boots to wear in the boat and a change of clothes for when you get back onto dry land.
