Newcastle Ad-Hoc Day of Dance
(NADoD)

Do you enjoy dances of Anglo-Australian-Celtic origins and want to extend your repertoire - to learn new dances, steps and technique?

The Newcastle Ad-Hoc Day of Dance series combines traditional and modern dances from Australian Colonial (and Bush), Scottish Country, English Country (including Playford), American Contra and Irish Set and Ceili Dancing genres.

Under the auspices of the Newcastle and Hunter Valley Folk Club Arthur Kingsland and Julia Smith conduct days of dance on an ad-hoc basis featuring interesting and challenging dances. Generally we dance from mid-morning (allowing time for our friends from Sydney, the Central Coast and Canberra to travel) through to late afternoon with tea/coffee breaks and a BYO lunch break. We usually then repair to a local club for a relaxed meal and drink.

Newcastle Ad-Hoc Day of Dance

NADoD 23

10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Sunday, 4 March 2012

RSVP: by 29 February (Wow – I've waited years to use that date!) - so we have some idea of numbers for catering morning & afternoon teas.

The NADOD series features interesting and challenging dances from the Anglo-Australian-Celtic mix. The program will have a wide variety of challenging dance. We'll have a go at our revised "Trip to Queensland". There's also "Andrew's Inspiration" and a whole host is interesting, challenging and a few simpler dances to fill the hours. As usual - there will be a mix of Australian, English (old and new), Contra, Scottish, couples dances, possibly an Irish Set dance or two, and whatever else comes to hand. If you have any special dance suggestions let us know and we'll see if we can fit it in. We've had a few requests, so if those dancers are able to come along we'll try to find time to include their special requests.

We'll take breaks for morning & afternoon tea/coffee/etc. and lunch. After the dancing we'll adjourn to Wests Leagues Club for dinner (for those who would like to stay). BYO lunch and we have use of the kitchen and the supper room. Tea & coffee will be on tap as required. Newcastle dancers should bring a plate of something to share for tea/coffee breaks.

Due to the challenging nature of some/many of the dances on our program, this session is not really suitable for beginners. This invitation is extended to a closed, private e-mail list so we would appreciate not passing this message on. If you have experienced Anglo-Australian-Celtic dancing friends who might have the skills and temperament to cope with our group and the type of challenging dances we attempt we would be pleased to consider inviting them.Venue:

All Saints arish House Hall
Cnr. Oxford & Cromwell Sts, New Lambton
Cost:
$8 for the whole day / $5 for half a day

Some of Arthur & Julia's Dances…

Arthur and Julia have written a few dances in the mixed Celtic/Modern Australian/English Country style. Some of these are relatively simple (depending on your perspective), but most require a fair amount of experience with advanced dancing. Here's a selection, with instructions added as they become more concrete (and time allows):
