Hunter Folk Dancers

The Hunter Folk Dancers are a group of dancers in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, who dance a variety of Australian and Celtic dances. The dances are mainly from the early period of white occupation through the Colonial and Federation periods and up to the present day with new dances being created in the Australian Colonial style of dance. In addition the group dances a number of English Country dances, particularly those of John Playford from the 17th Century and modern dances of Pat Shaw and Colin Hume (among others), Scottish Country dances, a few Irish ceili dances and an increasing repertoire of American Contra dances.
