4344 Four Way Studio Monitor JBL 4344, the legendary studio monitor for several decades, was famous for low distortion, ultra-wide frequency response and superb audio performance. It was last manufactured in 1985 and monitors of this series where used in about 90% or the recording studios of those days. Although the monitors are unavailable to buy now many of the parts are available second hand or 'new-old stock' from dealers who have had bits stored in warehouses etc for years. In 2004 I tracked down enough parts to build a near replica of these monitors. My pair weigh in at some 100kg each and details of the build can been seen on these pages: |
