Day 5 21/6/05: Augsburg to Otez
Our last morning in Augsburg, all the troops were
up for a 7:30 breakfast. The plan was for a morning
session on the course before we pack up and travel
to Otez, Austria. The team left for the course at
8:15, I decided to stroll into the centre of town
to take some final photos and buy a watch to replace
the one I lost a couple of days before leaving Australia.
The team had a fairly intensive session, the course
was broken into thirds and the team grouped into boat
classes. Off the water at 11am, packed up all the
boats and load them onto the vehicles. AN extra two
boats to get on, Jacqui picked up her new Slingshot
and Justin has borrowed a C1. Back to the Monastery
for a shower and Lunch.
We finally hit the road at 2:20pm for the journey
to Otez, a petrol stop in Augsburg, 150 euro later
and we are off. We turned south and headed for the
Austrian boarder, the initial part of the journey
was typically flat and winding through the beautiful
country side. Just outside of Fussen we came across
our first castle for the day. See the pictures in
today's photo gallery.
We did the tourist thing and stopped at the parking
area for the castle and did the walk half way up the
mountain to soak in the atmosphere of the area. Some
great shots of the country side from the castle.
5:30pm and we are back on the road again, through
Fussen and on our way to Otez via the Fernpaß,
I have been told that the ß act like a ss. A
beautiful drive through the pass, scenery was magnificent.
We finally arrived at our accommodation, the Nature
Resort at Otez, what a location perched in the head
of a valley next to the Inns River. Dinner time was
7:40pm and what fantastic meals, we could not have
asked for any better. Great hospitality and we even
had some entertainment for the locals as well as our
crew joining in, better to check out the photos than
for me to describe the scene.
We are doing a river trip on the Inns tomorrow. Catch
you all in the land of AUS in the next edition of
the tour diary.
