Day 17: 3/7/2005
Thankfully the weather was sunny today
which made for much more pleasant racing (and coaching).
The race course was completely different from yesterday,
being slightly more technical yet still open enough
to really lay it down on some sections. Robbie made
an appearance halfway through the day after being discharged
from hospital where he'd been on a drip for 12 hours
to recover from dehydration brought on from frequent
vomiting.
After first runs the C2 crew were in first
position, having put down a great solid run. Their second
run was going similarly well until they capsized near
the bottom of the course, and unfortuately didn't manage
to roll on their upstream side in the fast current (...they
swam...).
Ben and Emmie each placed 3rd in their
respective classes, and some other good results were
obtained in the K1 classes (see results page). The C1s
were all very close after first runs, however, after
Jack got a 50 in his second run, Craig and Jono pulled
ahead, placing 9th and 13th.
All in all, it was a successful day of
racing. Clearly not enough energy was expended during
the race becase after returning to the hotel we spent
an hour or so trying to make a human pyramid...much
to the amusement of the locals.
