Qld Immigration Records on microfilm at Family History Assoc of NQ show that Sidney Thick and Catherine Thick boarded the "Quetta", a 2147 tonne ship in London on 12/12/1889 to sail to Australia. They had free passage and were to be employed by a Mr A Dean of Mt Louisa in Townsville when they arrived. The shipping log shows that they could both read and write and were Presbyterian religion from county Wiltshire. Both were age 19 at departure. The ship arrived in Townsville 29/1/1890 but they did not disembark or leave port until 3/2/1890, possibly quarantine. Sydney's occupation was listed as Farm Labourer and Catherine's as Domestic. The ship docked at Thursday Island and Cooktown before arriving at Townsville. On board were 264 English people, 60 Scottish, 12 Irish and 12 of other nationality.

Last night about 8.30, the mutilated body of a man was found on the railway line, at Rooney's Siding, near the coconut palms, who had evidently been run over by a train. Life was quite extinct. The Ambulance removed the remains to the Morgue. It was afterwards ascertained that the unfortunate man's name was H.Coop, a ganger at Cromarty, but how, or when he met his death, so far remains a mystery.

A Magisterial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Harry Coop, whose dead body was found near the railway line at Rooney's Crossing, Railway Estate, on the night of May 28, was held at the Court House on Fri before Mr H E Cooney. The evidence stated that a person was seen standing on the weeds near the Crossing .......(marked and can't be read) evening shortly before the body was found, who was believed to be the deceased. It was thought that it was the second division of the train that hit Coop. The inquiry, which lasted nearly all day, was closed.
