AUGUST

August is mid season in Australia and conditions are clear and with cool SW winds behind weather fronts. Perfect conditions for long distance flights.

Each year our national body the Australian Ballooning Federation holds the LONG JUMP, based on the British original, for the best distance flown in the month of August. I was the 1996,2005 & 2006 winner with distances of 69 to 120 km in 4-5hrs. This is not an extraordinary distance but does take some planning as the normal balloon flight is 11/2 to 2hrs and only 6-12km.

I am also the current  Australian Flight Duration record holder for AX7-10 (size) balloons. With 8hrs 34min airborne in 1999. But it is the month of August and nothing last forever.
