DYNAMIC TESTING

Consultants in Automated Test & Structural-dynamic Simulation Systems” - CaTs3 Limited (pronounced “cats cubed”) is a new company, incorporated in July 2004, in partnership with the German based Zwick/Roell group, bringing together experienced specialists in the field of experimental structural integrity assessment. We specialise in consulting, development and supply of software systems for the control of single- and multi-axis servo-hydraulic test rigs, with particular emphasis on fatigue failure induced by simulated operational loading. Our talented team of engineers and specialists, innovative products and customer support allow us to provide optimised solutions to our client’s exacting requirements.

DURA

Sequence drive files in any combination
Fully automated trend monitoring takes care of the test for you

The stand-alone QanTiM® Durability Test Module enables you to carry out endurance tests consisting of predefined sequences of drive files, such as gravel roads, freeways and railroad crossings etc.
  • These are created by the QanTiM® Simulation Module or other compatible files like RPCIII.

  • Typical sequences range from many repeats of a single drive signal through to multilayered, nested loops providing accelerated fatigue tests.

  • During these tests, drive file scheduling is performed automatically.

  • Optional facilities include statistical trend monitoring, data logging and integration of the test rig with ancillary services for unattended operation

  • It contains trend monitoring capabilities which will look after the test to detect any changes in the specimen. When such changes occur, the test

QanTiM®

  • QanTiM® simulation testing enables you to bring greater realism, accuracy and repeatability to mechanical testing.

  • QanTiM® simulation enables you to reproduce the actual real-time loading conditions for a vehicle or structure in a test laboratory.
  • Real-time Simulation Testing offers the only method of reliably conducting interactive multi-axis tests
  • A QanTiM® Test and Simulation System provides a complete laboratory solution with a suite of control and analysis software modules for a wide range of testing like:

  • - Motion Simulation
    - Durability Testing
    - Squeak & Rattle Investigation
    - Shock & Impact Loading
    - Cancellation of Test Rig Interaction

MecTest

  • MecTest allows configuration and execution of complex wave forms to conduct multi-channel block program testing

  • Waveforms can be ramp, dwell, cyclic, stages, time-history files

  • Re-use pre-defined elements

  • Integrated control of digital outputs

  • Integrated data acquisition

  • Cross-mode peak adaption

  • Quality control limits

  • Many levels of nested looping

The Flexometer Software

All Flexometers are equipped with the DOLI Flexometer software DOLIFlex, based on
Windows™
(Windows XP, 2000 or higher is necessary). Older systems can easily be retrofitted by exchanging the electronics completely
.

The DOLIFlex Software offers the following possibilities:

  • Complete operation of the Flexometer

  • Sample mamagement

  • Real-time graphics

  • Data storage to server systems, also

  • Communication with all common LIMSystems

  • Recall of already tested samples

  • Multichart display of tested samples
    for direct  comparison

  • Evaluation following standards:
    DIN 53 533, part 3, ISO 4666/3, (ISO 4666/4), BS 903, part A50, ASTM D 623 or
    JIS K 6265

  • Customised evaluation with
    integrated calculator

  • Separate storage of reference sample results to check the testing behaviour of the Flexometer

Quality Control

DOLIFlex even does the quality control for you!

The software offers the possibility to regularly test reference samples. The results are stored separately and therefore, can be used to check the testing properties of the instrument over longer periods of time. It is even possible to define limits for the reference tests - charts will then show, when the results exceed the limits.

Measuring Principles

The image, which has been digitised by a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) camera (full image camera) is processed by a PC-supported video processor in real time. The aim of this image-processing is the determination of elongation due to mechanical strain.

The camera-image is digitized in 640 x 480 (= 307.200) discrete pixels. Further the grey-scales of these pixels are resolved in 128 shades. As a consequence, the smallest theoretical displacement comes to 1:163.840 (more than 1:17 bit) in the cameras field of view. This resolution, however, can be considerably increased by the evaluation of several line-scans and the calculation of the mean-value.

If the video extensometer is connected to a PC equipped with the Test&Motion Application Software, the entire testing process can be observed on the monitor and the results are continuously indicated in a status-bar. The aperture-setting is facilitated by a histogram, which is indicating the saturation of the grey-scale-curve along the central (yellow) evaluation line.

The aperture-setting has to be chosen in a way, to get the highest possible contrast on the targets (by search for the highest possible gradient of the histogram). The automatic target-recognition looks for the two areas with the distinctest black-white transition.

Special Features

The use of the video extensometer has many advantages, compared with conventional mechanical extensometers:

  • Gauge length compensation

  • Automatic target recognition

  • Resolution and accuracy improvement

Gauge length compensation

Since the initial gauge length lo and the displacement Dl are related to the same measuring standards, it is no longer necessary, to supervise the initial gauge length as carefully as required for conventional mechanical measuring-procedures!

The tolerance limits quoted in DIN EN 10 0002 T4 only refer to the absolute extension, whereas distortions - at the determination of the effective and gripped initial gauge length - are not respected. Under ordinary circumstances, mechanical measuring methods usually do no longer verify the inital gauge length after clipping-on. The video extensometer, on the contrary, needs no verification, because the strain is always measured in relation to the initially recognised targets.
