HRYC Clubhouse - "The Barge"
| First meetings of the club were held in the Hawkesbury River Marina. This was fine for committee meetings but didn't allow for gatherings of the whole club after races. For some time, after-race celebrations were held as BBQs in McKell Park and were limited to mainly daylight hours. The club sought to establish a club-house of its own, and two alternatives were pursued... a land-based facility on railway-owned land north of Brooklyn, and a floating facility. An opportunity arose to purchase a disused naval ammunitions barge, and restoration commenced in June 1996 to convert this into a club house. She moved from the work site at Kangaroo Point to her current Parsley Bay mooring in February 1998. Although improvements continue to be made, major renovations have been completed and we now have one of the most unusual and effective sailing club-houses around. Shown below is a sketch of the clubhouse in its current form. Click here for photos.
