INTRODUCTION for people who are curious as to what this is all about, and perhaps for those who might want to refresh their knowledge of grouting.
HOW TO GROUT A HOLE Detailed steps for carrying out a grout application.
How to deal with LEAKS, CONNECTIONS, STRESSED and MOVING ROCK
BATCHING THE GROUT A programme which calculates the quantities of cement and water for the various steps of a grouting application.
WATER TESTING How to measure the permeability of the foundation before grouting.
WHEN IS GROUTING NECESSARY? Deciding how intensively to do the grouting.
STAGES Grouting long holes in stages.
SEQUENCES How to arrange closure patterns of grout holes for maximum effect.
GEOLOGY Adapting grouting to suit the geology
SIMULATION OF GROUTING A HOLE Pretend that you are doing grouting. Let the simulation guide you with the grouting, or try the various possibilities yourself and find out what they would probably produce in a real hole. Intended primarily for guidance when training
WOULD YOU LIKE MORE OF THIS? The link connects to the author's site with the Grouting Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The site includes some of this present one. Additionally it contains photos and detailed analysis of a series of test injections carried out away back in 1962 to research the nature of grout flow in horizontal cracks. The testing was generally regarded as a salient step in the improvement of grouting technology and has been called "historic". This is its first entire public presentation.
NOW FOR SOME FRIVOLITY! The author (seen at left) invites you to have a chuckle if you are a geologist or engineer - or anything else for that matter.
FREQUENT REFERENCE IS MADE IN THESE PROGRAMMES TO THE GUIDE WHICH IS THE BOOK:
CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN OF CEMENT GROUTING
A GUIDE TO GROUTING IN ROCK FOUNDATIONS, by A.C.HOULSBY
Published by John Wiley and Sons, New York, 1990, ISBN 0-471-51629-5
MORE INFORMATION about grouting can be found in this book; it complements these programmes and provides thorough coverage of the subject. Grouting methods are fully detailed and explained; their applicability to various engineering projects is dealt with in detail and many other aspects are covered. Written in an easy-to-read manner, the book is arranged as a reference manual with numerous cross references. It is essentially a guide rather than being a 'recipe book'. Numerous humorous touches reflect the quirky sense of fun of the author (myself). For info see-

~ GOOGLE BOOKS shows some of the book on screen. Some other booksellers do likewise,
~ AMAZON SITE ...........and many other bookshops around the world, sell it, sometimes at very high prices.
After writing the book I copied it onto DVD and added many improvements, photos, animations, colour for everything and automatic calculating for batching and reporting. The result is somewhat like a second edition but is digital rather than being a printed book. I suggest that the resulting DVD is more useful than the printed book and than the on-screen copies from it mentioned above. However, the publisher, who holds the copyright for the book has expressed reluctance to sell it in DVD form and so the DVD cannot be distributed at present because of these copyright considerations.
It has been possible, though, to show many of these improvements in these present programmes, where they come under my own copyright, for which there is no charge.
My book mentioned above concentrates on cement grout. Not only for this but for other types of grout used in engineering activities attention is drawn to a companion book:
PRACTICAL HANDBOOK OF GROUTING in Soil, Rock and Structures, by JAMES WARNER. Published by John Wiley and Sons, 2004. .. ISBN 0-471-46303-5
It provides a thorough treatment based on its author's many years' of grouting, initially as a contractor and then as a consultant, particularly as a trouble-shooter. As well as discoursing on common usage and easy projects, it delves into esetoric and abstruse applications, the scope of which is unlikely to have been encountered by any other grouting engineer. Jim Warner has long been regarded as one of the leaders of the profession.
