  This is a 50 minute lesson I deliver to members of the public, though I often extend or abreviate it to
cover the time required of the lesson.
     
Lesson Objective:
 

Assuming that the students know nothing or very little about the Internet, teach the basics of how to navigate sites and use search engines so that students can make practical use of the Internet.

Learning Outcomes
 

At the end of the session, the participants will be familiar with using Internet Explorer and understand:

1. Basic web site cruising - detecting and following links - both text links, graphical links,
and how to recognise links.

2. Conduct basic Searches (both single word, and multiple word searches) using a search engine such as Google or Dogpile.

3. Use of Forward, Back and History features.

4. How to use the Address Bar to directly go to a web site.

5. Multimedia.

6. Copying text to Word, and download graphics.

7. Internet Safety and Responsibility - eg: Copyright, Virus's, Credit Cards.

8. Hotmail.

Assessment Criteria
 

Each person should have correct results on their screen,
and display competency in obtaining search results.

Training Resources
  Each student to have access to PC and be connected to Internet.
Participant handouts:
- Summary/how to of material covered;
- Useful web sites.
