This Unit is intended as an introduction to a unit on critical literacy 'Conventions & conventionality?' studying 2 other novels by the same author (in Grade 10). It is intended to extend understanding of narrative as storytelling and of narrative adaptations in different forms.
Students will undertake a series of 6 lessons that will enable
them to:
Review existing knowledge on Narrative forms
· Study Jane Austen's Emma in both novel and movie adaptation
· Begin to introduce critical thinking and critical literacy skills
needed for college, university etc, and in recognition of higher level reasoning/
conceptual abilities of advanced students - through guided discussion, questionnaire,
and homework.
Assessment will be based on completion of weekly activities and homework, as well as a major essay assignment.
