Our Logo and Purpose Statement

Gungahlin Uniting Church is unapologetically a congregation of the Uniting Church in Australia. While there may be times when we struggle with some issues, the Uniting Church seeks to be a place where diversity is celebrated, not feared and where difficult issues of faith as they relate to real life are explored – even when the answers do not come easily. For that reason we publicly use the Uniting Church symbol in all of our advertising and other material.

However, we are also very much aware that we live in a world where denominational loyalty is very much on the decrease – in effect, we would call ourselves a post-denominational community of faith who lives under the discipline and support of the Uniting Church in Australia. It is for that reason that we have placed what we call the 5 Gs of GUC around the Uniting Church symbol to form our own logo. The 5 Gs are our attempt to in some way symbolize what our Purpose Statement says in words:

GATHERING people of all ages as members of a community that is
GROWING in faith;
GIVING themselves in ministry and service;
GOING into their communities in mission; with the aim of
GLORIFYING God in worship.

The circular arrows are intended to show that the whole process of becoming a community of faith is a journey that involves aspects of community (gathering), learning (growing), sharing (giving), telling (going) and worship (glorifying). No one of these five is more important than the other, nor is any one enough on its own in a healthy community of faith.
